As a preliminary step to developing a full master plan for Loyola's Water Tower campus, Hoerr Schaudt provided the university and the City of Chicago with studies of the university's six block area within Chicago's thriving downtown. A primary goal of the study was to identify the Loyola Water Tower Campus as a distinct area within downtown and to extend the City of Chicago's streetscape improvements from the Cathedral District to Chestnut Street. Hoerr Schaudt designed a series of streetscape planters along Pearson Street that are inset with art-deco designs inspired by some of Loyola's architecture. The motif has become a unifying design element used on both campuses.
