Uptown Normal is an ambitious redevelopment project led by the Town to revitalize its downtown. Sustainability is at the heart of the neighborhood plan.

For the centerpiece of this new district, Hoerr Schaudt designed The Circle, a roundabout intersection with a park at its center that naturally cleanses stormwater from the surrounding streetscape through a series of filtration bogs. This creative stormwater system returns the cleansed water to the site in the form of a fountain, and recycles water into an irrigation system for the adjacent streetscapes. Rain gardens, porous paving, and new technology that reduces soil compaction around street trees are some of the many sustainable aspects of this project.
