DHLA was initially retained by Apple Computers to design the streetscape for Apple's new high profile store along Chicago's famed Michigan Avenue. DHLA worked closely with the architect to extend the building's clean modern lines and materials out into the street while still blending into the greater streetscape. During the design process, DHLA was also able to convince Apple and the building architects to install the first green roof along the famed Magnificent Mile. Apple, always the trend setter, embraced the idea of a roof that reduces a city's urban heat island effect, storm water run-off, and improves their own building's energy efficiency.
