The Village of Kenilworth is a small, quiet community of early 20th century homes along Illinois' north shore of Lake Michigan. This residence, gracious but not ornate, conveys the feel of an English estate. However, its proximity to adjacent homes left its façade and landscape open to the gaze of surrounding neighbors. Though spacious, the back landscape lacked a designed relationship to the house, and offered few opportunities for more intimate gatherings. A formal sunken lawn bordered by walls of Corinthian granite transformed what was undefined back yard into an expansive pool of green. Key design elements, including an antique fountain and terrace, are placed along an axis that enhances the quiet formality of the home.
