2010 IL-ASLA award winner

Hoerr Schaudt designed an experience in which this lakefront home appears to have delicately unfolded into an natural hilltop woodland, touching little and leaving a light imprint. The design pays careful attention to the sensory experience of materials and seasonal planting, which contribute to the richness and beauty of the Michigan woodland. In response to the steep terrain and architectural style of the home, horizontal features play an important part of the site’s design. Stone walls and a segmented stair with multiple terraces elegantly unify landform with structural form.
