As part of a city-wide interest in improving the character of its streetscapes, the City of Des Moines and area community groups are committed to enhancing the unique character of Ingersoll Avenue. As a first step in this transformation, DHLA worked with stakeholders and conceptualized several improvement options for the area between 28th Street and 31st Streets. The options, based on various funding levels, are guided by existing characteristics of the neighborhood and the community's desire to enhance the Avenue's retail culture.
This project is expected to serve as a model and catalyst for the entire Ingersoll Avenue streetscape, and the conceptual designs DHLA completed in spring 2006 will be used in fundraising efforts.
