Carolina North is a 250-acre parcel owned by the University to be developed as a new campus. Hoerr Schaudt’s landscape master plan for the campus, which is located on a former airport as well as on natural areas, better integrates natural elements into the development footprint. The plan proposes redeveloping the former runway into a central open space this is the main spine of the development. Throughout the campus, native plant nurseries, habitats for targeted species, and stormwater management strategies connect the former brownfield with sustainable water use and the forest beyond. The guidelines establish a clear framework for public/private development over the next 50-100 years.
